The Abhishekagni Centre Trust was officially inaugurated by Rev. Mar Jacob Manathodath on September 9, 2011, and registered at the Palakkad Registrar’s Office on September 12, 2011, under registration number 373/4/2011.
On November 13 and 14, 2011, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, His Eminence Cardinal Mar George Alencherry, visited Sehion and blessed the foundation stone of the Abhishekagni Centre.
The first house, named St. James House, was inaugurated on September 8, 2012, at Sehion Hills. Following this, the office building and accommodation facilities for the ministry team were completed, along with the Tirumugha Chapel.
On June 17, 2015, Rev. Mar Jacob Manathodath inaugurated the one-day service at St. George’s Hall, marking the beginning of a new chapter in the ministry’s outreach. Regular Saturday one-day services began on June 20, 2015.
On September 8, 2015, the statues of Our Lady’s Grotto, St. James, St. Michael, and St. Help of God were blessed. From September 1 to 8, 2015, the Unbroken Rosary devotion began at the Holy Cross Chapel and continues faithfully to this day. The Cross on the Mount of Olives (Gagultha) was blessed on September 14, 2015.
The first priests’ retreat at Sehion Kalkurishumala was held from January 20 to 25, 2016. Over time, the hills became a sacred space filled with prayer and divine encounters. On April 28, 2016, Rev. Mar Jacob Manathodath visited the Unnicho Chapel and the tents on the Mount of Prayer (Gadzemen). Later visits by other bishops included Rev. Mar Jacob Manathodath’s blessing of the Holy Image of Mercy on April 27, 2019, and Rev. Mar Raphael Thattil’s visit to bless the Image of Angel Raphael on May 13, 2019.
On December 25, 2019, the Chapel of Jesus with Folded Hands (also known as the Confession Church) on the Mount of Prayer was blessed.
Priests and sisters began attending the general meditations conducted for the laity at Sehion in large numbers. To meet the growing spiritual needs of the clergy and religious, the first meditation exclusively for priests was held at Sehion from November 23 to 28, 2008. Later, under the special instructions of the Reverend Father, meditations for sisters were started, beginning from February 13 to 18, 2011.
Recognizing the importance of creating a dedicated space for these spiritual gatherings, a prayer hall for priests and sisters under the name Abhishekagni Centre was established at Sehion on April 28, 2011. To expand the facilities, a hill adjacent to Sehion was purchased for the activities of the Centre. This hill was initially named Abhishekagni Hills, and later came to be known as Sehion Kalkurishumala.
Ministries and Activities :
Sehion Kalkurishumala serves as a centre for priests, sisters, and lay leaders, dedicated to the mission of evangelization and spiritual renewal. The evangelization team organizes a variety of programs such as:
Power Conferences for priests, sisters, and lay leaders, Discipleship Training Programs, Priests’ and Deacons’ Meditations, One-day Meditations on Saturdays, Intercessory Prayer Services, Leadership and Ministry Training Retreats
These programs are conducted not only at Sehion Kalkurishumala but also across different parts of the world, extending the reach of Sehion Ministries.
Since the dedication of Mizpah Hall on June 6, 2013, meditations for leaders and ministers have been held on the third Sunday of every month. On the same day, a ministry centre named Ephraim Centre was established, with its main focus on intercessory prayer. Around a hundred participants regularly gather here for prayer and meditation, interceding for the Church and for the evangelization of the world.
This intercessory prayer movement is considered the spiritual heart of Sehion Ministries, where participants can even stay for a week to take part in continuous prayer sessions.
From August 3 to 8, 2014, the first Kannada meditation was conducted at the Ephraim Centre, and later these services were shifted to Kalkurishumala to accommodate the growing number of participants.
On April 28, 2014, the office of Sehion Ministries was shifted to Abhishekagni Hills, where Rev. Fr. Xavier Khan Vattayil took residence. On September 14, 2014, Rev. Mar Jacob Manathodath blessed the Stone Cross and lit the Missionary Candle at Sehion Kalkurishumala. The St. George Hall, dedicated for priests’ meditations, was inaugurated on April 28, 2015.
